Orthotics at YourBack Chiropractic
What are Orthotics?
Orthotics are medical devices, so they are much more than shoe inserts. The devices are customized to fit your foot and offset strain on your muscles and joints. Anyone with biomechanical imbalances can benefit from orthotics, but the most common issues are related to plantar fasciitis, diabetes, arthritis, shin splints, and bursitis.
How Does it Help?
Orthotics help by keeping your spine and body aligned, and your adjustments will last longer. The devices fit comfortably into your shoes. Our practice offers custom orthotics for patients. The design of your orthotics is based upon a comprehensive foot scan that is sent to a lab where the orthotics are made. Our doctors recommend that you have orthotics for each pair of shoes that you wear, including slippers and flip flops that you wear in your home. Consistent use of orthotics ensures that your body is in alignment at all times.
In most cases, orthotics from our doctors do not need to be re-fitted. The original fit typically provides the long-term support that is needed. The hard plastic part of the orthotics is very durable. The softer sections may need to be replaced every two to four years. Most insurances have an annual allowance for orthotics, so you may be able to receive a reimbursement for the cost. We do not bill insurances directly.
Yes! Our team takes the time to design orthotics that are comfortable and fit easily into your shoes. After using orthotics for a period of time, you will notice a reduction in pain, issues walking, and other concerns.
To maximize the benefits of orthotics, you should wear them any time that you are not lying down. If you do not wear the same shoes throughout the day, our team can design orthotics for each pair of your shoes.
Your body tells you if orthotics may be beneficial. The devices help with arch issues, such as having an arch that is too high or having flat feet. Foot and heel pain are other signs that you may need orthotics, as well as chronic back and hip pain. If you experience pain when standing, walking, or running, orthotics may be a good option. Lastly, if you find that the results of your adjustments do not last very long, orthotics can help by keeping your body in proper alignment in between your appointments.
